Placate the palate and up your platelets
I can only imagine how many people reading this post are coughing right about now. In the past three years new strains of viral fever have become rampant in the Country. It doesn’t matter which State you go to everyone has some strange story to tell about the Viral Fever.
The most recent one causes muscle aches and reduces people to inaction and listlessness and drains you of water and energy, this is further enhanced by incessant coughing, a loss of appetite and losing one’s taste.
Here’s the thing though, it’s not dengue, chikungunya or malaria. It’s a viral infection that brings the platelets count down.
Hence our family physician recommended intake of fluids – water, lots and lots of water. Warm fluids – soups, tea and porridge. Fruits – Lots and lots of fruits. This basically aids in regulating liquid in one’s body.
But how does one increase their Platelets? Simple – If you have a Papaya tree at home all you need to do is
· Pluck oneleaf. (One that is not too tender nor too mature) Separate the main vein and chop the leaf into bits.
· Take 2 teaspoons of water and add the leaves in a mixer and grind it to a paste.
· Strain this paste using a muslin cloth. You’ll get about 3 tablespoons of the juice.
· Add a tablespoon of honey (Which is high in B complex) to this concoction.
· Drink it like the whisky you enjoy.
Note: Do not dilute the juice. Drink it neat.
Those who aren’t too keen on the bitter taste of the Papaya leaf juice can try the Kiwi fruit. This fruit contains Vitamins A and C and has Potassium too. These combined together help the immune system.
The above two remedies go hand in hand with supportive medication prescribed by the doctor. One can’t avoid pills and just indulge in home remedies. These two remedies primarily help in strengthening the immune system.
When one takes strong medication, one is bound to feel lethargic. The home remedies prescribed here merely help in ensuring the strengthening of the immune system to further prevent any complication.
It’s summer now. Mosquitoes are all over the place. Arm yourself with repellents. Keep them at bay at all times. Make sure you are always hydrated. Drink plenty of water. Stay safe.
