The Crown

Image
Women are constantly looking for role models to look up to. We barely have enough women in places of power and when we do, - EVERYBODY wants to bring her down. My review isn’t an account of, how dare she say - “Or they might get silly ideas of getting independence,” or fume over Prince Philip’s family’s association with the Nazi or Winston Churchill’s policies and outlook towards the commonwealth. These are all events in history. They did happen. They haven’t embellished or sugar coated it and have in several episodes “quoted” every historically accurate verbal discourse of various views on varying topics of the common wealth. As long as one remembers that these are all events from the “Past” and not how the world is today, we can actually praise the makers of the show for the portrayal of the Crown . Claire Foy has done a stellar job of portraying the young princess who marries Duke of Edinburgh at 21. For us born in the 80’s, we’ve only seen the “grey queen” with no smile on her face

Spring Onion Curry

SPRING ONION CURRY I woke up yesterday with a foreboding that my day was going to be hectic and nobody wants their Sunday ruined at the cost of something that keeps them occupied most part of the week. I woke up grumpy and I knew I had to vent. I opened the fridge and saw spring onions and decided to make something out of it. Now, the thing is – I didn’t enter the kitchen thinking, “Oooh… this will make a good blog post. No.” It was more of a, “Oooh spring onions… chop chop and snip snip… mwahahahahaha.” While I was delightfully chopping the scallions I found my anger ebbing away. I had given life to my imagination of decapitating several heads in the form of neatly chopped vegetables and that is when I decided to start snapping photographs for the blog. This recipe comes from my kitchen with minimal experimenting with basic ingredients and my current favourite thing – Ching’s Hot Sauce. RECIPE Ingredients ·         Spring onions – 2 bunches ·         Tomato – 1 Large ·

SIMON SAYS - CLEANSE, TONE AND MOISTURISE (PART DEUX)

Image
The one thing that has changed since Lulu got me my first 6-month subscription to Glamego , is that I haven’t purchased a single product since. In my pervious post I only spoke about the toner. This post deals with the following: Step 1 : Cleanse. I ran out of cleanser, so I started using Blossom Kochhar’s – White Tea and Chamomile face wash which we received in our October box. This is as good as the one I often use i.e Biotique’s Pineapple Cleanser. Washing your face is just as important as washing your hands before your meals or washing your feet when you get home. Here’s a tip for people with acne prone skin – we need to concentrate on washing around our hairline, eyebrows and nostrils because this is where “most” pollutants and bacteria make their home. Doing this definitely makes ones face “cleaner”. ( I love 💓 K-pop and these pop-stars are obsessed with how they look with or without make up. The male artists especially are very vocal about this aspect and always tend to talk

Embroideries

Marjane Satrapi is a fantastic artist with incredibly nice stories to tell and I’ll urge everyone reading this post to please pick any of her work and you will like it. I first read Persepolis years ago and recently read Chicken with Plums and Embroideries by her. Embroideries is a story of a group of ladies gathered together having a conversation over the traditional Samovar. I am not going to tell you why the book is called “Embroideries” because I sincerely hope you have a good laugh after you read it yourself. What I find ever so often when I pick a book that has more of a “conversation between the people”, as the central theme is that conversations around the world between a group of people is always the same. We think we are the only ones plagued by a certain problem – W.R.O.N.G. We think Arab countries don’t have feminists – W.R.O.N.G. We think only “some” women are opinionated. Maybe we never did a good job of listening? “Embroideries” is a series of stories exchanged while a

Sarah’s Key

“ You’re playing with Pandora’s box. Sometimes it’s better not to open it. Sometimes it’s better not to know .”   - Sarah’s key by Tatiana de Rosnay I love reading about war. War is that part of history that we can never truly leave behind. It changes lives in an irreversible manner – death, change in government policies, borders are created; that prevent you from visiting your loved ones AND that gnawing memory of all things one did as a civilian during the war. Sarah’s story takes us back to the eve of 16 th July, 1942 in France. The Jews were being rounded up and like the rest of them Sarah Starzynski along with her parents was taken to the Velodrome. The Velodrome d’hiver is an indoor cycle stadium which on its exterior looks so innocent but within it, it hid over thirteen thousand Jewish families. People barely had any place to move about and had to stay indoors for 3 whole days before they were transported off to Drancy and from there to Auschwitz. At Drancy the men were separat
