Unorthodox

The lockdown is taking a toll on me as I am sure it is on you too. I started writing a post on my top 5 favourite gender bender – Japanese and Korean dramas. Then my laptop started acting funny and it would be tragic if both Lulu and I were sans laptop in the current circumstances. I decided to give my laptop some rest for a couple of days and during that time I cleaned the fan and guess what the laptop is back to staying on without switching off, so yay! In the past two days I decided to finish watching a historical Korean show I’d started watching after Itaewon Class but I seem to have hit a road block with the series as I am finding it to be too dry and  ghisa pita, wahi purana story.  Usually people parallelly watch romedys when they are reading a heavy book or watching an emotionally taxing show. I need to watch emotionally taxing stuff just to complete viewing this Korean drama(Which I still can't bring myself to finish watching.). I have two more episodes to go but

Hakka Noodles and Watermelon Salad

Image
As kids my brother and I would always pester my mom to make noodles. We loved the way she made them and we called it ‘oily noodles’.   We all know Maggie is made with water and sometimes we don’t even toss in vegetables and somehow that has never gone down well with me and we called those noodles ‘water noodles’. I love noodles with crunchy vegetables with a hint of pepper and garlic and a side of sweet salad. The salad recipe that I have provided below usually has feta cheese in it but we improvised it with paneer. Putting up a cutting board picture after ages!!! In the lockdown the one thing we’ve been assured are fresh fruits and vegetables. I am extremely thankful for that. I made these noodles under my mother’s watchful guidance and she has approved the taste and hence it can go on the blog. If you want to make a complete meal out of it I’d like to recommend having it with any of these 👉 Gobi Manchurian / Soya Chunk Manchurian / Honey Chilli Potato / ChilliPane

Tacos!🌮

My dad and I aren't picky about our vegetables so I added everything in ours 😃 It was a case of ‘Ola Mexicana’ at our place recently. Due to the lockdown announcement so many stores got cleaned up overnight. We at home didn’t see the need to panic because we had made our monthly purchases and fresh fruits and vegetables were already stocked. As the days progressed we realised there were some things that we should be buying so as to avoid going out as much as possible. Our goal is to go out just once a week and not more. Hence began our quest on Big Basket. It was not surprising that most of the essentials were already out of stock so Marley decided to bag things that were available and that is how we landed with Tacos and Nachos. It was the empty taco shells that prompted me to indulge everyone at home and make some healthy Tacos. Ingredients: Yummy yummy in the making. For the double fried beans: 1 Cup kidney/rajma beans (200-250 gms) 1big onion finely chopped 1 tsp rajma masala

Biscuit Pudding

Do you ever pretend you are a participant on Master Chef and you are in the bottom four so you end up in the round with surprise ingredients and you are supposed to take what you have and make a delicious dish with it? I do. I live in my head even on non-quarantine days but now I see scenarios playing in my head more often than before. Here’s what happened, Marley said he wanted to eat biscuit pudding. I said okay and left it at that. Then he asked for it again. A couple of days later my mom said she wanted post lunch dessert. I decided it was time I whipped up a dessert. I noticed we only had one pack of Marie biscuits and usually I use two packs to make this pudding. I realised if I used the regular recipe we’d all only be eating slivers of pudding instead of a nice chunky piece and we know that, that’s the only way to eat dessert. I set myself the task of not going out of my way to buy any ingredients for the pudding and make do with whatever was at home. Hence was born this wonderf

Itaewon Class

I love Park Seojun and I have watched all the series he’s been in and Itaewon Class was released this year so I knew I would binge watch once all the episodes were released.   IC is originally a Manhwa (Korean equivalent of a Manga). I had read this comic in parts and then as luck would have it the app I was using was removed from the play store. (Yes, I read pirated comics online. If there was a paid source that had the comics I want to read believe me I would pay and read. If anybody so much as suggests Crunchyroll I will find you and punch you in the face. I hate Crunchyroll it has such a yucky selection of comics. Even if I am a girl I need my fair share of violence because some experience I like having vicariously). I don’t know if I have mentioned about my love for revenge previously on this blog. I love the Count of Monte Cristo so much!!! I read it for the first time in school and I understood what “Kalaje main thandak” meant.   I have reread that book so many times since and w

An avocado, A cucumber and a few nuts walked into a kitchen...

Guacamole! I had been busy and sleep deprived for most of last year and kept complaining about needing to just stop, rest and regain some balance. I spent the last 14 days doing just that. Now that I am all caught up with sleep and rest I thought I should start contributing to the blog. I hope the quarantine isn’t getting too bad for our readers and if it is watch this space for easy recipes, series recommendations and some really simple DIYs. Given the quarantine we are rationing vegetables and groceries. With the situation escalating I don’t see the lockdown ending on the 14 th .   I don’t want to make this post grim. So let’s get to the meal recipe below which is not just economical but also tasty and uses minimum ingredients, yet remains healthy. Guacamole Ingredients: (Serves 3) 2 ripe avocados 1medium sized onion finely chopped 4 big cloves of garlic finely chopped 2 tablespoons of finely chopped coriander Juice of 1 small lemon ½ tsp pepper powder Pink Salt Method: Cut the avoca
