Peas Soup

At my home we are all on a diet for health reasons, which is why my last post was health related and this is a healthy recipe too.

Every Indian kid knows Tarla Dalal. As a child I remember watching her cookery shows and for the longest time I thought people who cooked were magicians too. When you pause and think about it, one takes a bunch of ingredients and the end result of putting those ingredients together is a party for one’s palate.

I wanted to make green peas soup without stock and was looking for the easiest recipe when I chanced on TarlaDalal’s recipe.

The ingredients are as follows:
·                    1 Cup fresh green peas
·                    1 Medium sized white onion.
·                    1 Medium sized potato
·                    1 Teaspoon freshly ground pepper.
·                    2 ½ cups water
·                    1 Cup Milk

How to make the Soup

·        Dice the potato and onion and in a non-stick pan add all 3 vegetables and one cup water and bring it to boil. (Takes approximately 5 minutes for the peas to boil and the onion to turn translucent.)
·        Let the vegetables cool down. Meanwhile, boil one cup of milk and set aside.

·        Put the vegetables in the mixer and make a paste.
·        In a pot add paste and 1 ½ cup water. Once the mixture starts to boil, slowly pour in 1 cup of milk  and keep stirring while you add the milk.
·        Then add pepper and salt as per your taste. Bring soup to a boil and then switch off the flame.
·        Serve with bread sticks/rusk.

Side Note:
Milk neutralises the spiciness of the onion and pepper against the sweetness of peas and potato.
This soup is quick to make and easy on the taste buds and will warm your insides.

Should the milk be at the same temperature as the soup or room temperature, as milk tends to curdle when it's temperature is different from the contents in the pot. Please reply.

Hi there! As a matter of fact, the milk was the same temperature as the soup(when it came to a boil) and hence the mixture did not curdle. Thank you for asking this, i'll be editing my post accordingly :) We hope you try this recipe and tell us if you liked it :)
