MotoZ2 Play

In our previous post I had mentioned that MotoZ2 Play was one of the phones I was considering buying. I ended up recommending it to my aunt who is now the proud owner of her Lunar grey MotoZ2 Play.

The reason why Moto also made it to my list is relatively simple – It had the general specifications I was looking for along with the fact that it was economical. The biggest factor that made me lean towards this though was the expandable memory option. One can expand it up to 2TB!(Originally it has 64 Gb Internal Storage) My aunt’s laptop doesn’t get any more windows updates and they have since stopped updating chrome for older versions of windows. With last year’s scare of attacks on vulnerable systems her laptop hasn’t been connected to the Wi-Fi as there is no security patch. She has a nexus tab which she exclusively uses for games but she wanted a gadget that would allow her ample storage. Hence Moto!

My aunt is on the other side of the 50’s but her love for technology and the simple pursuit of wanting to keep stride with trends and development has made her want to explore the tech world and with me as her superhero to the rescue whenever anything goes wrong, she has no fears of making mistakes while learning.

Though this phone is meant mainly for people who are gamers, this phone is amazing even for those who use it as a casting device. One can download live streaming apps and cast shows on their smart T.V and enjoy uninterrupted shows and movies.

Considering the fact that my aunt loves forwards and images and also loves storing photos – it was but natural that I had to seriously weigh the storage factor.

As someone who has lived her life in the disco era, she’s someone who needs her Beegees, Abba, BoneyM and Cliff Richards wherever she goes, not to forget classic old Hindi songs! (More memory)

She also had issues with a service provider while she was travelling, to combat the same she now has two sim cards. MotoZ2 has two sim slots AND a SD card slot!

The clarity of pictures on her phone’s front(5 MP) and back(12 MP) camera are amazing. Every aspiring photographer will probably use all its camera features to the fullest.

With Google introducing google assistant on all new devices she has been enjoying her browsing with the assistant.

Wondering why a person who is a homemaker requires a Qualcolmm Snapdragon 626 processor? That runs on 4GB RAM? Well, meet the generation that is impatient. My aunt just cannot stand garbage being dumped anywhere but in the bins. As someone who is socially conscious irrespective of where she is travelling she needs her phone to react quickly to her commands and Google assistant has to be at her beck and call when she is looking for phone numbers of authorities responsible for maintenance of a particular area!

As someone who is always helping her friends who are over 70, it is but natural that she needs her Uber and Ola apps at hand.

For someone who is as active and independent she naturally needs a device that won’t hang on her.

With its proximity sensor, she can always spot her phone and doesn’t have to keep pressing the power button for her screen to light up for her to unlock.

She even got herself the rugged back cover with a stand that is so sturdy and stable that she can place it on flat tops and enjoy her videos on YouTube or Sony Liv and virtually stalk Amitabh Bachchan’s profile on Instagram.

She even has a few tricks up her sleeve to snag offers on her rides or buy packs for her games! Yes, she is tech savvy and she is learning yet. But the question is – if someone in their 50’s finds these specifications to the mark and more, will a 20 something person find this product feasible?

The answer is yes. Like I always make it a point to mention – A device is only as amazing as its owner. Whatever gadget you own – keeping aside the price, if it has the specifications you are looking for and does everything you expect it to, then it is a good investment of your money. Make sure you check all the factors you want before you zero in on your choice.

The bottom line of this review is that – it is an amazing phone. Thanks to the rugged back cover it also survived a fall without a scratch.

My Rating: 3.9/5
Recommend:Yes, for every aspiring photographer and is suitable for all age groups.
